Poem
The Great
Goose
Migration
You know that weird phase
Where everything is about to change?
The one that jumps, leaps and stings
Around the backbone: near the wings,
That fear to change that always clings.
The troubling trick
That makes you think,
Of everything but not of it.
Uproot, abandon what you know
For changeling lake, just rid of snow.
Fly off and leave
You can’t belong, can’t live,
Can’t do anything right.
You can’t stand the wait
So they take flight.
Freezeout and mountain front
Rocky day but what’s to come?
This leaf in dusk does not belong
So let the day be day
And the night: be gone
